Kamoa Copper Health Teams Complete Intensive HIV/AIDS Management Training

发布日期:2024 年 10 月 3 日

This summer, Kamoa Copper took a major step forward in our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our workforce. Two teams of health professionals, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and lab technicians, attended comprehensive two-week training sessions on HIV/AIDS management. These sessions, held at the Kamoa Centre of Excellence (KCE), were organized by PNLS, the national program leading the fight against HIV/AIDS in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

A team of expert trainers from PNLS, led by Dr. Thierry Ngoyi, Manager of the Kanzenze Health District, imparted in-depth knowledge and practical skills to our health teams. The training covered the latest advances in HIV/AIDS diagnosis, treatment, and care, preparing our staff to provide world-class support to those affected by the disease.

Upon completing the intensive training, we held a celebration ceremony for each team, presenting certificates to all participants. This milestone marks a significant expansion of our HIV/AIDS program, building on our existing bi-annual testing campaigns.

Previously, individuals testing positive for HIV/AIDS had to be referred to off-site facilities for antiretroviral therapy (ARV). Now, thanks to the support of provincial and national health authorities, we can provide ARV medications and ongoing care directly at our Kakula, Kansoko, and Kamoa sites.

This initiative greatly enhances our capability to manage HIV/AIDS and demonstrates our commitment to the health of our workforce. By offering full ARV care on-site, we are taking proactive steps to ensure that our employees and contractors have permanent access to testing, prevention, and the best possible care and support.

We are grateful to the PNLS experts for their invaluable training and to the participants for their dedication. Together, we are building a healthier future for the Kamoa community and contributing to the global goal of eliminating HIV by 2030.

The 95-95-95 Objective

Our expanded HIV/AIDS program brings us closer to achieving the 95-95-95 objective set by UNAIDS:

  • 95% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status
  • 95% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy
  • 95% of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy will have viral suppression

By working together and investing in the health of our workforce, we can create a brighter, healthier future for everyone at Kamoa Copper.
