Eight professional blasters recently completed a week-long training program focused on explosive handling and safety protocols. The session, held at KICO’s facilities in 2024 年 8 月, was organized in partnership with Afridex, the authorized agency supplying the explosives, and under the supervision of the Ministry of National Defence.
"When working with explosives, one must never fall into a routine,” emphasizes Charles Miji, the Afridex trainer leading the session. "Good reflexes, observation, and reasoning are essential to prevent accidents.” The training covered advanced techniques, including proper sequencing for blocked drill holes and comprehensive safety protocols for explosive handling.
The program represents KICO’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in mining operations. Bobel Lunkutu, a participating blaster, notes the training’s practical value: "We deepened our understanding of safety procedures, especially around detonator handling and movement. I thank the company for providing us with training – it proves KICO has safety at heart to ensure proper working conditions.
This was the fourth blaster training session at KICO, underscoring the critical role these professionals play in industrial mining operations, where precision and safety awareness can mean the difference between success and catastrophe.
Through such programs, KICO continues to prioritize workforce development and safety compliance, setting a strong example for best practices in the mining industry.
